About Us:
Founded in 2013, The Wood Geek's Furniture & Crafts is a veteran-owned small business that was located in San Antonio, Texas. We have recently moved to Lakehills, Texas by the beautiful Medina Lake. We specialize in pens, but have also done other things like small furniture items and small turnings like bowls or kubotans. Owner & second-generation craftsman Ken Harte started building furniture for friends & family after becoming increasingly disappointed with the quality of store-bought items available at a reasonable price. Every attempt is made to keep production costs to a minimum so the savings can be passed to the customer. As a small shop, we don't do any mass-production, but we will do our best to keep turn-around times reasonable. In the near future, we hope to be selling some items online, but most of our sales will be directly to customers at San Antonio and Hill Country area craft fairs and/or gun shows.
Our Goal:
Wood Geek’s is in the process of developing a line of “gun friendly” hidden compartment furniture for around the house. The first to be developed is the mantel/gun shelf, followed in the near future by an end table, dresser and book shelf. Each piece will have at least one hidden compartment in which a homeowner can store items of value. The compartments will be sized to hold guns, but they could just as easily hold jewelry or any other high value items the homeowner would like to keep “out of sight”.
One reminder though – These furniture pieces are not intended to replace a gun safe, but should be used in addition to a safe to provide “ready access” to personal protection weapons. Any gun safes in a home should be securely bolted to the floor. Some homeowners have encountered burglaries where the entire gun safe and/or traditional safe was stolen. Having some items in hidden compartments MAY prevent this. ** If a thief thinks it’s a normal piece of furniture, they are more likely to look elsewhere for high value items.
